This course is aimed at experienced senior I and II musculoskeletal physiotherapists with existing manual therapy skills who are keen to accelerate their clinical assessment, diagnostic and treatment skills to a NEW LEVEL. Research on joint and muscle function has lead to the development of multi-modal, evidence-based approaches. The model upon which this series has evolved considers the research and clinical evidence and the interplay of the articular, myofascial, neural and visceral system in function and dysfunction. This approach requires skilled clinical reasoning, an understanding of how different body regions are linked both in function and dysfunction and, for those learning it, a desire to improve and practice the range of skills taught. This series is a highly coherent mergence of 4 individual courses offered by Diane Lee & Linda-Joy Lee: - The Lumbopelvic-hip Complex, -Real-time Ultrasound Imaging & Clinical Reasoning - The Lower Extremity – Integrating the Lower Limb to the Lumbopelvic Core - Thorax & Shoulder Girdle. See Diane and LJ’s websites (http://www.dianelee.ca/ and www.ljlee.ca) for descriptions. It is also one of only three series Diane and LJ teach around the world. Please see www.physiouk.co.uk for the theoretical and practical content of the series. At the conclusion of this series, the participant will have an understanding of how to design a multimodal, evidence-informed treatment program which includes manual therapy, real-time ultrasound imaging, dry needling (for those already using dry needling), education and exercise from early rehabilitation to functional integration. The series will be run as three 4-day weekends across 2009. The course will clarify and determine the criteria for progression from the acute / early post operative phase through to the final functional pre-discharge stage of rehabilitation. Contemporary concepts in ACL rehabilitation will be addressed and while specifically focused on musculoskeletal programmes, the principles taught and discussed can be applied to all spheres of physiotherapeutic practice. The day would be excellent for any health professional involved in ACL rehabilitation including physiotherapists, sports therapists, osteopaths and chiropractors. Whilst the focus is on surgical reconstruction, non surgical repair is often discussed and rehab principles are directly applicable The day is excellent for all musculoskeletal therapists involved with patients undergoing ACL surgery. The course costs: £99 This day will mix lectures and practical sessions. The aim is firstly to give participants a working functional knowledge of foot biomechanics. This knowledge is then discussed in relation to orthotics and their prescription. This is then continued in observation and analysis of the gait cycle allowing application of previously observed biomechanical problems through the gait cycle. The overall aim is to familiarise clinicians with assessing foot biomechanics and through clinical reasoning their influence on presenting patient symptoms. Anne Marie is an experienced podiatrist who works extremely closely with physiotherapists in her clinical practice. The day is aimed as both an excellent introduction to those needing to improve both their knowledge and skill within this area and a good refresher for those with a working knowledge of gait analysis and foot biomechanics. Spaces are limited Who is this course aimed at? This course is aimed at those who are new to the field of biomechanics. It is highly recommended for experienced junior physiotherapists, senior II and new senior 1 physios, osteopaths, chiropractors and sports therapists. http://www.physiobob.com/fulldetails.aspx?iJobID=4553 http://www.physiobob.com/fulldetails.aspx?iJobID=4553 Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo 1 Day Course To see full course details and spaces available, please see www.physiouk.co.uk. This course costs £99 This is an extremely common cause of vertigo; about 20% of all dizziness is due to BPPV. It can occur in children but the older you are, the more likely it is that your dizziness is due to BPPV. About 50% of all dizziness in older people is due to BPPV. In Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) dizziness is caused by debris that has collected within a part of the inner ear. This debris consists of tiny crystals of calcium carbonate. They come from a part of the ear called the utricle and cause trouble when they migrate into the canal system. The utricle may have been damaged by head injury, infection, or other disorder of the inner ear, or may have degenerated because of advanced age. Participants will be taught the differential diagnosis of other causes of vertigo and how to identify the signs and symptoms of serious pathology. This condition is frequently the cause of falls and therefore useful for physiotherapists working with the elderly. It is increasingly referred to outpatient departments by consultants and GPs. This course will be particularly useful to staff working with the elderly and in outpatient departments. At the end of the course students will be able to : Describe the clinical presentation of BPPV Describe the patho-anatomy of BPPV Effectively carry out the Hall-Pike Dix diagnostic test and both the Epley Canalith repositioning manoeuvre and the Semont Liberatory manoeuvre to treat BPPV. Identify and treat horizontal canal BPPV Identify 5 differential diagnoses of vertigo http://www.physiobob.com/fulldetails.aspx?iJobID=4556 http://www.physiobob.com/fulldetails.aspx?iJobID=4556 Introduction to the Thorax 3 Day Course For full details and to see spaces available, please see www.physiouk.co.uk. Cost £360. Discover: An Introduction to the Thorax is a 3-day evidence-based course (Sackett et al 2002) that reviews the current evidence and presents a clinical model for assessment and treatment of the thorax. This course presents a structural framework for clinical decision making which enables the therapist to decide when, where and why different treatment interventions should be applied for successful rehabilitation. Linking together a biomechanical approach, taking into consideration thoracic segmental stability, and incorporating new research on motor control and the deep muscle system in the thorax, a new integrated approach for assessing and treating the thorax has been developed. Based on specific assessment tests, the clinician will learn how to integrate joint mobilisation techniques, myofascial release techniques, stabilisation exercises as well as functional integration exercises into a complete multimodal program which is patient specific i.e. prescriptive - and thus most effective. Novel concepts developed by LJ Lee for assessment and training of segmental thoracic control, including assessment and correction of integrated ‘ring’ function, will also be covered. This 3-day course lays the foundation for understanding how to restore movement and control within the thorax and how this impacts the rest of the body. The 136 joints that make up the thorax play a key integrated role in how loads are transferred through the trunk while simultaneously ensuring mobility, stability & postural control, and optimal respiratory function. Who is this course aimed at? This course is aimed at physiotherapists wanting a sound practical based introduction to the assessment and treatment of the thoracic spine. http://www.physiobob.com/fulldetails.aspx?iJobID=4554 http://www.physiobob.com/fulldetails.aspx?iJobID=4554 Alex Hough:A Problem Solving Approach to Respiratory Care To see full details and spaces available, please see www.physiouk.co.uk. The course costs £198. This course provides an evidence-based approach to the assessment and management of respiratory patients and those undergoing surgery. Assessment skills will be linked to include interpretation of blood gases, x-rays and auscultation. These will be integrated to allow an understanding of the medical management of the respiratory patient and enable full co-ordination of physiotherapy with oxygen therapy and medication. A variety of physiotherapy techniques for the surgical patient and those with atelectasis or at risk of atelectasis will then be critically reviewed. The indications for physiotherapy intervention will be identified in patients who have sputum retention or excess secretions, and critically evaluate these techniques. This will all be accompanied by a current reference list and problem solving skills facilitated through the use of case studies and practical sessions. Please see the link below for the most current programme and course objectives. Who is this course aimed at ? The course is ideal for junior and senior II staff and those requiring a revision in respiratory care. It is also appropriate for 3rd year students. http://www.physiobob.com/fulldetails.aspx?iJobID=4555 http://www.physiobob.com/fulldetails.aspx?iJobID=4555 Band 5 Intermediate care community physio required HCL Healthcare is currently looking for a Band 5 Intermediate Care Community Physiotherapist required in the East Kent region.
