I have a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree from Bayero University Kano, in Nigeria awarded in 2015 and am currently doing a Master degree in Public Health(MPH) from the same University(Done with course work and passed all, awaiting project defence). I am currently registered with the Health and Care Professions Council with registration number PH133558 and working on becoming a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy(CSP). I am a member of Nigerian Association of Orthopedic and manual physiotherapists.
After graduation in 2015, I worked as a rotational physiotherapist for over (7) years(Equivalent to Band 5 and 6 physiotherapist in the UK) both in National Hospital, Garki Hospital, Caroline Medical Centre, Cairo Hospital Abuja, Nigeria. I had clinical rotations in Orthopedic and trauma, Medicine, surgery, Neurology, musculoskeletal, Cardio-respiratory/ICU, Paediatrics, community health service, Women's health and Elderly care.
Currently, I work as an autonomous front door physiotherapist and the deputy head of Physiotherapy department of Cairo Hospital Abuja, I am skilled in advanced assessment of patients with chronic presentations, using detailed history, manual assessment techniques, apply the use of sound clinical reasoning skills and proper assessment tools for each condition(WOMAC osteoarthritis index, Back pain functional scale, Schober test, etc.) and evaluation findings to formulate diagnosis and set safe and achievable goals/plans incorporating both patients and carers to make informed decision for their management through the use of patient education, evidence based therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, electrotherapy, Acupuncture, and other treatment options to relieve pain, Improve functional ROM, muscle strength, mobility and quality of life.
I have experience in the management of various MSK and Orthopaedic conditions(Ankylosing spondylitis, Osteoarthritis, Tendinitis, Fractures, Spinal surgeries, etc.) through the use of current evidence based exercise therapy techniques, prescription and grading, muscle power grading scale, stretching, neural mobilization, endurance, strengthening exercises, Kinesiotaping techniques and acupressure therapy. I always apply knowledge of NICE and other local guidelines in management of MSK and Orthopaedic conditions.
I understand and interpret complex medical information and investigations(X-ray, DEXA scan, MRI, PCV, RH factor, Anti-CCP, HLA B27, etc.) and alter treatment programmes accordingly.
I review the effectiveness of the treatment and modify plan when necessary through the use of outcome measures, auditing and sound knowledge of clinical reasoning and decision skills. I always seek for assistance from my clinical lead for any challenging case and I deputize him on clinical and managerial issues. I supervise, educate, examine, appraise and delegate tasks to junior staff and students on clinical placement.
I recently updated myself with the recent evidence based management of (frozen shoulder, fall prevention and treatment, advanced manipulative therapy, and current CPR certification) to provide patient-centered care, this was the reason why I updated myself.
I perform many other roles but because of want of space I will stop here.
I strongly believe that I have the necessary exposure in the field of Musculoskeletal and Orthopaedic conditions. I am looking for opportunity to further strengthen and sharpen my clinical skills and experience across a range of specialties and levels of complexities.
